Celebrity Style: "Madonna makeup & hair at 50"
Fast approaching 50 Madonna still shows that she can reinvent her look and make it work. I've really been inspired by her Vanity Fair and H&M ads lately. Aging hasn't stopped her from not only setting trends but defining them.
Her latest look has been centered around her gorgeous wavy hair. Madonna's hair has always had a wavy style naturally but her stylists have really played up on this gorgeous feature. Straight sleek hair is out this season and it's all about body and shine. This differs from the volume teased out locks of the '70s and '80s. Today's big hair is healthy, warm hued and bouncy.
To achieve Madonna's look here are some tips:
- Start by applying moisturizer to clean skin, and making sure your under eyes get a lot of attention
- Foundation should be lightly applied using a liquid or tinted moisturizer, to appear fresh and healthy
- Powder and set foundation to achieve a matte complexion but avoid the cakey look by buffing out areas with a large brush
- Apply a taupe color to entire lid, and using shades in in slate, espresso and dark burgundies contour the outer eyelid area and slightly into the crease to create drama and definition.
- Line the upper eyelid using a creme liner in black or brown/black. Good ones to use are Mac's Fluidline and Bobbi Brown creme liners. Bottom liner should be done using a dark eye pencil smudged into the lower lash line.
- Apply a lengthening mascara in black, making sure the lashes are well separated and not clumped together.
- Groom eyebrows and apply a chestnut to dark brown powder to the brows.
- Blush should contour the face from apples to temples of the cheeks using a dusty rose color. Make sure to buff and blend out edges till blush seems to gradiate across the face.
- Finish with a creamy lipcolor in mauves to brownish roses, and skip the gloss on this one.

- Part hair down the middle and start by rolling hair using large to medium velcro rollers. Velcro rollers will give you body and curl without the weight of a curling iron curl. Hair should be wrapped with the roller placed horizontally down from the part on either side. Start with your largest roller on top and transition to a smaller size on each row.
- Using your blow dryer with a diffuser attachment, heat up each section until the entire head has been blow dryed.
- Spray roller set with a volume brushable hairspray and allow set to cool
- Once cooled carefully take rollers out of hair making sure curls are not brushed out completely.
- Apply gloss drops or a shine spray to your hands and break up the curls gently through entire head.
- If you want to create the wave framing in the front create finger waves at the fringe area using clips and hairspray.
- Finish off the style with a setting hairspray like Big Sexy Hair's Spray & Play.
