Celebrity Style: "Hillary Duff Makeup"

I've been following Hillary Duff's career for many years and I really love how she is being styled nowadays. Her look shows that the smoky eye is still in fashion and can be done in a glamorous yet alluring style.

I'm still surprised that a lot of women I talk to have categorized a smoky eye as a black eye shade. Smoky eyes are a technique not a specific color. Some of my favorite variations are browns with purples or greens with pink.

Hillary really carries this look in combination with a soft lip and a bronzed complexion. Below are some tips on how to achieve Hillary Duff's look:

  • Choose colors that are natural and that carry depth. Chocolate browns, midnight purples, and gray blues work well for this style.
  • Make sure to blend the shadows past your eye crease onto the brow bone. Instead of using a back and forth motion with your brush, move the brush in a circular motion throughout the crease to prevent a harsh line. The colors should be darker near the lash line, getting smokier and softer as you go up.
  • Eyes should be framed with a dark liner top and bottom to showcase your eyes.
  • Eyebrows can be done in a shade lighter than your actual color as to not take emphasis away from the eye design. Taupes, chestnut and warm browns work well for this look.
  • Lip shades should be soft and the lips should not be lined. Dabbing a tinted gloss or just smudging a small amount of lipstick will do the trick. Stick to apricots, light pinks or mauves to get the perfect pout.
  • Blush is not mandatory for this look. If you do choose to use one try a bronzer a shade or two darker than your foundation color, and blend softly.
